A new project on invasive plants monitoring

We are happy to announce the award of a new project entitled “Innovative monitoring of non-native species and assessment of their long-term spread into non-intervention areas: the role of anthropogenic disturbances and climate change.” Together with the project leader, the Botanical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, we will work on this project in the Krkonoše National Park over the next three years.

The project aims to improve the detection and monitoring of non-native, extralimital, and expansive plant species spreading along transport corridors and tourist infrastructure. It compares traditional field surveys with innovative technologies, such as the CamAlien mobile camera system, UAVs, and aerial and satellite imagery. We will use machine learning to analyze large image datasets and to produce distribution maps. In addition to assessing long-term spread, we focus on identifying key drivers, trends, and risks of invasion in sensitive ecosystems.

We would like to thank the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic for supporting this project (project number: SQ02010073).
