We were delighted to return once again to the Czech–Polish Ramsar peatlands of the Krkonoše/Karkonosze Mountains and to the unique environment of the Krkonoše tundra around Lučnà bouda hut.
During the second week of July, we collected new field and remote-sensing data for peatland monitoring within the Interreg Czechia–Poland project The Importance, Change and Practical Protection of Peatlands / Znaczenie, zmiany i praktyczna ochrona torfowisk (project No. CZ.11.01.02/00/23_011/0000161). At the same time, together with colleagues from the Institute of Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences, we launched field activities for the new project Innovative Monitoring of Non-Native Species and Assessment of Their Long-Term Spread into Non-Intervention Areas: The Role of Anthropogenic Disturbances and Climate Change (project No. SQ02010073), supported by the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic.
The joint field campaign provided an important basis for monitoring changes in these sensitive mountain ecosystems and for developing practical approaches to their long-term protection.
